Hans Jochem Bakker

Hans Jochem Bakker (1948) is a self-taught artist from a long line of artists.He draws inspiration from artists such as Salvador Dalí, Miró, and Picasso; he has incorporated elements of their southern temperament into his themes, such as a particular interest in birds, horses, and women.

His subject matter is not predetermined; it emerges, so to speak, only when the brush first touches the still-blank canvas. As spontaneous as possible, honest, straight from the passionate heart of the artist. There isn’t even such a thing as a finished story. Everything is in motion, and that is also the main reason to keep painting.

In addition to greater freedom—and with it the ability to react immediately and respond to what emerges under the hand—there is also room to focus on composition, structure, and material. This completes the act of painting, and the painting becomes a unity of form, color, and movement.
