Vincenzo Dell''Avvento

At first glance, the softly lit still-life photographs of fruit, vegetables, and other objects could be mistaken for paintings. Inspired by paintings from movements such as realism, hyperrealism, and magical realism, Vincenzo’s photographs reverse the usual relationship between photography and painting. Instead of using photography as inspiration and a medium for painting, as photorealists do, Vincenzo creates photographs inspired by realistic paintings and drawings. Vincenzo also finds inspiration in the paintings of the Old Masters from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The soft light, in particular, is a major source of inspiration and can be seen in much of his work.

In much of his current work, he places objects—such as trays, bags, or wraps—inside paper or plastic. He discovered that this transforms the objects within the plastic, creating new ways to view everyday objects. He also loves the way light interacts with the different types of plastic.
