Sebastiao Rodrigues

Sebastião SR Rodrigues (Portugal) is an artist with an extraordinary life story and a visual language deeply rooted in his personal history. He grew up in poverty and lost his father at a young age, forcing him to work from the age of eight. That early confrontation with responsibility and loss forms the emotional undercurrent of his body of work: paintings described as a cartography of the soul.

In his work, Rodrigues seeks a balance between earthy colors, basic geometric shapes—especially circles—and powerful contrasts. His paintings depict a world where figuration and symbolism intersect, as if the images are striving to break free from the canvas. The themes he explores are universal and human-centered: beauty, love, hope, and truth. Rodrigues believes in humanity, and that belief lies at the heart of his artistic message.

Over the years, he has collaborated with various Dutch partners, including screen printer Peter Wilms, with whom he has created large-scale works. Rodrigues now lives and works in the Netherlands, where his art is widely appreciated for its expressive power, spiritual depth, and recognizable visual signature.

His body of work is an ongoing quest for inner geography—a visual journey in which each composition maps out a new territory of his own soul.
