Natsch Wesselink

About twenty-five years ago, Natasch came to Utrecht from the far east of the Netherlands to study, and ever since then, the visual arts have held her spell. These days, she creates her own world on the computer using images that zoom in on reality—both literally and figuratively—and then set out to explore the subconscious. Her approach gives her the freedom to work in a world free of constraints, with the goal of reaching places she has never been before. In this world, little is fixed; everything is in motion, and the need to break free from reality takes precedence, as she immerses herself in color, composition, and the interplay of lines. The photographs she uses as a starting point are sometimes “ordinary” snapshots, but they can also have a deeper meaning, such as the images she captured during the period when her son became seriously ill and portraits of young children. Occasionally, you recognize elements from reality; more often, however, the abstraction is such that the photographs are no longer recognizable. Yet they always leave room to give form to the invisible.
