Margot van de Stolpe graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and ran her own graphic design studio. In the 1990s, she also created the monumental designs for the roller shutter murals on Rokin in Amsterdam.
She then founded The Monumental Tile, a studio where she created art on tile panels and other wall art applications for interiors.
In recent years, she has also focused on creating independent work and has become a member of Het Tropisme, an art movement represented by a group of artists who draw inspiration from nature and science in their work. For Margot, the structures and patterns found in nature and the plant world are her primary sources of inspiration.
Her art consists primarily of staged photography, thereby depicting a new perception of reality. She builds layer upon layer, with chance playing a major role. Rhythm, mirroring, and reflection are characteristic aspects of her work.
She is currently collaborating with fellow Tropist Robin Noorda on the project “Ultra Vanity,” a series of photographs of Baroque still lifes using special UV lighting.
