Kamile Proost

Kamiel Proost decided to become an artist at the age of eighteen. This decision stemmed from a desire to reveal and share the beauty of the world. Proost lives and works in his studio in Amsterdam and is part of our capital’s largest artist community, “Nieuw & Meer.” His apartment, which resembles a cave, is filled with plastic dinosaurs, toys, sculptures, and paintings by artist friends. Although Proost is sometimes spotted on Amsterdam’s nightlife scene, he prefers to stay hidden away in his studio. That is also where he most enjoys working on his paintings. The Amsterdam canals, which he overlooks from his home, are a source of inspiration for him, especially at night. Proost views this era as a modern Middle Ages. His work often reflects the influence of Hieronymus Bosch. He hopes that a spiritual renaissance will soon take place. In his work, Kamiel Proost seeks to continue the limited tradition of Dutch surrealists.
