James Kerwin

It was October 2013, and James had been pursuing photography for about four years when he came across images online of a former psychiatric institution in England. Although it wasn’t his usual style of photography, it immediately caught his attention, and he wanted to see more. Since that day, James has traveled to unknown and remote locations in more than ten European countries, capturing the decay and neglect of some breathtaking sites, including dilapidated hamlets, abandoned castles, former power plants, underwater structures, and even entire cities such as Pripyat near Chernobyl. Once inside an abandoned structure, there is no noise, no people shopping, commuting, driving, or talking on their mobile devices; it is quiet and peaceful—this is something James loves and is truly passionate about. James focuses on capturing rich color palettes in-camera before using post-processing to produce each finished image with Adobe Creative Cloud products. Over the past three years, he has also received praise for his compositions, something he’s proud of. In 2014, James won three different photography competitions.
