Inez Kohler

When painting, Inez prefers acrylic paint and mixed media on canvas. When creating etchings and other forms of printmaking, she constantly experiments with a wide variety of materials.

In her entirely unique style, Inez always strives for a good balance between fantasy and reality. Some works appear purely abstract at first glance, but upon closer inspection, human figures and other forms become visible. Thanks to her use of color, the paintings have a striking presence without being overpowering. Warm red, bright yellow, and deep blue lend her work its power.

Themes often arise spontaneously and are frequently connected to the surroundings or atmosphere in which she finds herself at that moment. Color, form, and a sense of composition are very important to her in this process. She often explores various themes in which people usually take center stage. In the field of printmaking, she primarily works with etchings, acrylic prints, woodcuts, and mixed media. She strives to create a harmony within a cheerful, narrative, mystical, and sometimes romantic atmosphere, thereby generating a tension between line, form, and color. She works primarily from her intuition in a fairly expressive manner; as a result, themes are usually not planned in advance but arise spontaneously while she is working. Experimentation with color and materials is important, as is their quality. Chagall, Matisse, and Picasso remain major sources of inspiration for her.
