Gerda Schoehuijs

Gerda Schoehuijs (1948) was born and raised in Heemskerk and began her artistic career in 1976 in Bakkum under the guidance of Cor Heek, who taught her how to work with oil paint. She found working with this medium to be an unparalleled joy. However, due to a busy and socially active family life, she was unable to continue painting—something she wanted so badly. A few years later, Gerda happened to meet a well-known artist. Once again, her artistic spirit was reignited, and she began working with acrylic paint. For her, painting with a brush and paint is an outlet for feelings and emotions. Time and again, she embarks on a journey of discovery. Gerda is guided by her experiences, her mood at that moment, and the emotions that arise from them. She makes her choices as she goes along. Not a ready-made reality, but fantasizing in abstraction. This results in a representation of what occupies her subconscious—something she only becomes aware of upon completion. She also continues to surprise herself time and again. To gain an even better understanding of the possibilities at her disposal, she still takes regular lessons at a studio in Amsterdam.
