The starting point for Martine Stig’s (1972, Nijmegen) work is photography—specifically, its authenticity and voyeurism. In addition to working with the medium, the artist explores the role of photography in how we perceive reality. Stig seeks to move the viewer by playing with his or her “viewing experience.”
She is interested in the cultural differences that emerge when viewing an image,
and how an image can be interpreted differently depending on its context. But she is also interested in the universal need to take photos of loved ones.
