When you see Jeroen Dercksen’s work, it’s almost impossible to imagine that it was all created by the same man. From flowers to portraits to abstract works, it’s all part of his body of work. With tremendous precision and passion, this artist devotes himself to his work. His studio is located on the outskirts of Amsterdam, in a rural setting. There, he can devote himself to his work in complete peace and quiet.

What stands out in his choice of subjects is the high level of detail he brings to his works. Dercksen is an artist who approaches his work with great conscientiousness and focus. He seeks to maintain and develop this concentration throughout his creative process. He regularly delves into various related fields by studying art history and the work of other artists. He therefore views his art as a continuous process of development with much to discover.

A solid knowledge of and skill in drawing forms the foundation of his work, which he considers indispensable. He views the practice of techniques as a form of exercise. He uses acrylic paints, applying layer upon layer, with colored underpaintings. He also explores how various layers and colors contrast with or interact with one another. His floral and abstract works, in particular, are characterized by vibrant colors. Portraits, on the other hand, are somewhat more subdued in color but capture the character of the subject.

His work is also recognized internationally. For example, he has completed a number of commissions for embassies on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and General Affairs at Binnenhof 19. His portraiture is often commissioned by private individuals. A fascinating artist who is constantly on a journey of discovery!
