Jacqueline SchSfer

Jacqueline SchSfer lives and works in Amsterdam. She also graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy there in 1989. Until then, painting had been primarily something she did for herself and shared with only a few others. A means of expression. When she discovered that it was also a means of communication, painting took on an extra dimension for her. During her studies, she sought out a visual language that suited her. She found her own style and developed it over the years. Through the interplay of distinct forms, bright colors, and sharply defined black contours divided into harmonious swaths of color, her work is now highly recognizable.

She has chosen a figurative, yet non-realistic, approach. She creates a world in which the forms of her figures are recognizable and uniquely her own. The themes of her paintings range from cheerful, strange fantasy birds and static, understated still lifes to female nudes. The latter primarily depict her own feelings and moods and, in that sense, can almost be called self-portraits.

Since 2004, the artist has also been creating small sculptures of, among other things, the “Strange Birds.” For her, this is a new artistic challenge that she hopes to develop further in the future, alongside her painting. SchSfer’s clear and positive love for life in a complex modern society shines through in all her work.
