Inger Kolff

After completing her studies at the film academy in Amsterdam, Inger Kolff made several documentaries. As an art director, she worked on feature films and commercials. After working intensively in a group setting, she developed a longing for contemplation and stillness. She chose to take up drawing and painting, her great love since childhood. She completed the foundation year at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and then forged her own path. As an artist, she developed a style in which a zest for life, poetry, and eroticism—the latter particularly evident in her drawings—play a prominent role. Her visual language and line work exude a high degree of originality. Her expressive paintings are characteristic of her work. But her work is often also understated and tender—whether figurative or abstract. Journalist Jos Klaassen wrote about her work: “…art always brings you back to the vulnerability of the human condition.” For Francis Bacon, that was the sacred principle. The same is true for the Amsterdam-based artist Inger Kolff. She, too, seeks in her work—and especially in her drawings—to depict vulnerability, which she considers one of humanity’s most beautiful qualities, and the most moving as well.

Inger Kolff seeks to capture sensuality, sensitivity, vulnerability, and longing. She believes that you must be able to feel her work; it must move you.
