Gertie Janssen

Gertie Janssen’s work reflects her outlook on life. It is therefore strongly influenced by her mood and well-being. Each work emerges through a process in which choices regarding materials, techniques, colors, and forms arise spontaneously. She does not seek to depict “stories” or carry out plans. Stories and plans hinder her creativity. Yet her life is recognizable in her work. She works, partly unconsciously, with metaphors that she herself only recognizes later. She uses her works to experience the reality of everyday life. For her, painting is a relaxing adventure that fulfills a fundamental need in life. In recent years, this quest for adventure has also led the artist to experiment with new materials and forms of expression, after having limited herself primarily to painting in previous years. The spontaneity and honesty of Gertie Janssen’s work make it accessible to everyone.
