Erica van Broeckhuijsen

Erica van Broeckhuijsen is a contemporary Dutch artist who stands out for her inventive approach to objects and installations. In her body of work, she transforms everyday forms into intriguing and functional works of art. With a keen eye for design and a playful, experimental spirit, she interweaves humor and serious artistry, challenging the viewer to reconsider the boundaries between practical objects and sculptural expression.

Her work includes, among other things, a series of so-called “seating objects”—artworks that invite interaction and in which the concept of “sitting” plays a central role. Titles such as Horse (red), Horse (blue), Hot Dog (orange/blue), and Crocodile (black) point to a playful approach to combining color, form, and functionality. Each creation reflects a deep understanding of the relationship between object and space, elevating everyday objects and reimagining them as art objects that raise questions about our daily experience of aesthetics and function.
