Eliza Kopec

Eliza Kopec (1960, Poland) graduated with a B.A. in graphic arts and drawing from the (current) Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After graduating, she began working as an independent visual artist and initially created many limited-edition prints for numerous Dutch magazines. Around 2000, she increasingly focused on creating abstract reliefs and paintings based on regularity and geometry.

She works with various forms and formats: she paints on canvas, creates installations with paper, and makes paper reliefs. Sometimes these are monochromatic—specifically white or black—which makes the repetition and shapes in a work stand out even more. At the same time, she also creates vibrant, multicolored works. Her work is often composed of basic geometric shapes such as lines, squares, and circles, and translates rhythm, texts, and sequences of numbers into abstract images, for example, through a defined color palette. The starting point for many of her works is often concrete subjects such as poems, newspaper articles, or mathematical principles. By translating these concrete subjects into shapes or colors, she aims to create universal images of beauty.
