Anneke Peereboom has been active as a visual artist for years, and not without success: her paintings and silkscreen prints can be admired throughout the country. Color, form, and a remarkable attention to detail: these are the striking characteristics of her work.

For the past several years, the artist has been focusing on painting canvases, ranging from abstract works to images incorporating text and nudes. After completing her studies at the Rietveld Academy, she worked as a graphic designer and art director for magazines such as *Opzij* and *Vrij Nederland*. Three years ago, she also earned a Master’s degree in Art & Culture. She has a particular interest in semiotics—the meaning of signs. This is especially evident in the canvases in which she has incorporated fragments of text. The connection between the form and meaning of signs and symbols fascinates her.

Each painting begins as a clear image—a tree, a mountain, a flower, snow, the sun, or a model. This concrete image serves as the starting point for a transformation, for a movement that, in principle, continues eternally even after the final phase on the canvas. The paint weaves its own story around the archetype—the primal image that we all essentially carry within us. A story that points to another world, another dimension in which the viewer can lose themselves. As I paint, one color is placed next to another, or over another—glazed or opaque. The rhythm in which this occurs helps determine the composition. The structure, openwork here and there, makes the painted world accessible. The canvas is a snapshot; at any given moment, the process can continue, and the movement can be set in motion again. As a viewer, you embark on a journey, you dream, you become part of a fairy tale.
