Theo Schildkamp Fine Art.

Theo Schildkamp has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember. What began as a natural urge to create images grew into his profession and eventually into his life’s work.

After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem, he began his career as an illustrator and designer. From his studio—first in the countryside of Twente and later in Provence in southern France—he built a successful international practice. For over twenty years, he worked from the south of France, where the Mediterranean light, colors, and relaxed atmosphere have had a lasting influence on his work.

After this period, Schildkamp decided to change course and focus entirely on independent painting. He ended his commercial work and devoted himself fully to creating paintings in which his personal vision and technique came into full bloom.

Schildkamp works primarily with acrylic paint and paints in a figurative, narrative, and symbolic style. His paintings often depict harmonious, almost dreamlike scenes in which something unexpected occurs—a woman walking with an antelope, for example. This slight sense of alienation lends his work a poetic and mysterious quality.

Although he now focuses entirely on painting, he still considers himself partly an illustrator. His paintings function as visual stories without a fixed ending: images that invite the viewer to invent their own story about what is happening or what is yet to come.

Theo Schildkamp’s work is exhibited both in the Netherlands and internationally. Thanks to a long-standing collaboration with his American representative, his work is also permanently displayed in prestigious galleries in the United States, where his paintings are brought to the attention of a wide audience.
