Milou Honig

Honig creates screen prints, gouaches, and paintings. Color is the most striking element in her work. Whether she’s creating an abstract painting or a landscape, the warm, sunny colors radiate toward you. She paints joyful scenes out of a conviction that nature brings vitality. Her travels through Africa are also an important source of inspiration. Gouaches and silkscreen prints featuring the landscapes and architecture of Morocco—particularly the southern region of the Sous, a rugged area bordering the Sahara—led to two silkscreen series: “Souk” and “Imperial Cities.” “African Tales” is a series of four silkscreen prints inspired by the geometry of architecture and decorative art from Northwest Africa.

In general, one could say that when viewing Milou Honig’s works, one sees colorful, loosely defined planes from which figurative elements gradually emerge—such as a city wall, a mosque, a polder, or a sunlit landscape. Abstract works featuring recognizable scenes from reality.

Milou Honig has exhibited in the Netherlands and France. Her work is held by government agencies, institutions, art lending libraries, and private collections.
