Mascha Haring

These paintings were created from the perspective of a walker. During walks, a connection with the surroundings develops, and every place can take on a magical quality. Sometimes it’s the way light falls on a floor or wall, or the reflection in the pond behind the Tropenmuseum, which constantly blends different colors with the deep black. Traveling slowly, on foot, creates the opportunity to pause and notice the unexpected. The paintings transport you to those quiet moments of reflection, when the noise fades away.

In the 1990s, Haring graduated from the painting and printmaking department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and was nominated as a rising talent of her graduating class. A year later, she received a startup grant from the Fund for the Visual Arts. Since then, she has been creating figurative and poetically abstract work with a keen sense of color and atmosphere. She combines a pursuit of simplicity and clarity with an eye for detail.

Haring has exhibited her work in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Copenhagen. Over the past ten years, these have included some surprising venues, such as exhibitions on a beer bottle by the Cinema Brewers, on a windmill in the Frisian countryside, and in group exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag and Paleis Het Loo.
