Lou Thissen

Lou Thissen (1950).

Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg. Painter, draftsman, and colorist—he is all three. He himself views a highly developed technique in these disciplines as an indispensable foundation. Movement in music, dance, theater, and sports are particularly important sources of inspiration for him. In a powerful, distinctive style, he first establishes the theme, subject, or model, only to have it quickly overshadowed by the subject that the artist perceives as a whole. According to him, the dynamics of the whole are just as characteristic of the subject as its core. In his art, these two extremes interact in a fascinating way.
