Lon Buttstedt

Visual artist Lon Buttstedt has been collecting images and objects from various cultures her entire life. These objects may lie unused in her studio for long periods of time, but they can also be incorporated into sculptures and/or paintings in a variety of forms. They are artifacts—items from the past that are valuable to the artist and remind her of other places, times, and cultures. By using symbols and elements from these different cultures and eras side by side and in combination, Lon Buttstedt creates her own spiritual world in which objects take on new meaning within a different and fresh context—a world characterized by a sense of wonder at how things grow, survive, and ensure their own continuity.
