Liande L. Bakker

Liande was born in Alkmaar in 1977.

She drew constantly as a child, until she discovered acrylic paint. Over the years, she taught herself to master painting with acrylics. Her work hovers between realism and surrealism.

She painted many commissioned works, but when this no longer brought her satisfaction, she began to focus on creating her own work.

Themes such as decay and transience, combined with a beautiful or lighthearted element or object, make her paintings appear controversial.

In her work, she depicts tranquil spaces that suggest something has just happened or is about to happen. Bordering on the unsettling, this creates a tension that prompts the viewer to invent a story.
