Juliette van de Walle

Her work consists of sculptures. She finds her materials and sources of inspiration in toy stores, thrift shops, or simply on the street. Her sculptures—which can be enormous, depending on the materials available—are therefore constructed from used objects, parts, or forms derived from them. Just as a writer uses words to craft a novel, she works toward a visual concept: “I remove something, add something, and keep changing it until only the essence remains.”

Through her sculptures, she aims to bring together strangeness, movement, balance, philosophy, and playfulness. They are funny, lighthearted, cheerful, and playful. In this way, she seeks to elicit a smile from the viewer.
