John lives and works in Amersfoort. The relationship between the work, the artist, the viewer, everyday reality, wonder, and the mysterious. Within that relationship, stories, questions, tensions, and new perspectives emerge.
Endless curiosity about what is and what is to come—a world in which you can lose yourself and swim. The extraordinary nature of the everyday comes to life in the dynamic interplay of colors and contrasting painting techniques. The many layers create space and respond to one another.
Konijn has a loose, painterly touch and is a physical and fast painter. When setting up a new composition, he dances across his work to imbue the underlayer with considerable power from the start. He alternates diluted, transparent oil paint with impasto strokes.
The color palette, the dramatic expression, and the slightly surreal, alienating touch result in multifaceted, spatial works.
