Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) was an American artist who became one of the most important figures in Abstract Expressionism. He began his career with figurative and surrealist influences, but quickly developed a visual language all his own. Pollock worked intensely, physically, and experimentally, driven by a quest for direct, unfiltered expression. The floor of his studio became his canvas, and painting transformed for him into a rhythmic, almost dance-like act.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Pollock developed his most revolutionary technique: the famous drip paintings. By pouring, dripping, and flinging paint onto large canvases, he created complex, energetic compositions that no longer revolved around traditional forms, but around movement, dynamism, and pure presence. This technique brought him worldwide fame and firmly put American art on the international map for the first time.

Although Pollock struggled with personal problems and his life ended tragically, his influence remains immense. His work broke through the boundaries of what painting could be and inspired generations of artists to focus on the process, the physical act, and the freedom of the material. Pollock is regarded as a pioneer who permanently changed the art world.
