Amsterdam-based visual artist George Heidweiller was born on May 15, 1963, in Beverwijk. From 1980 to 1984, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague.

Since completing his classical training at the Royal Academy in The Hague, Heidweiller has been exploring the possibility of combining diverse techniques and graphic elements in collages. But it is not only different techniques that the artist blends in his works; he also mixes visual fragments from various sources. Because his canvases often feature Western and Eastern icons side by side, you get the feeling that you’re on a journey around the world: Asian street culture, South American use of color, Western violence, consumerism, and the blurring of the line between art and life. The collage technique that George Heidweiller employs in his current work fits seamlessly into the contemporary art scene, in which old, new, and disparate elements are integrated within a single concept.

The artist’s use of materials varies greatly. Often, screen prints he has created himself appear directly on canvas, where the artist fuses the various visual elements into a single new whole. The image is often enhanced with collages created using mixed media on substrates such as paper, cardboard, linen, or wood. George Heidweiller’s work surprises with a deceptively clear visual language and a richly contrasting layering, both in technique and form. The dynamism practically bursts from his canvases!

George Heidweiller has now built up an impressive track record with numerous exhibitions and commissions both at home and abroad. The artist’s work is part of private, government, and corporate collections.
