Coen Blankwaard was born on February 24, 1965, in Eindhoven. As an artist, Coen Blankwaard is self-taught. He is inspired by artists such as Karel Appel, Picasso, Warhol, and Schnabel, among others. His greatest hero and role model is Jean-Michel Basquiat. “The speed in his work combined with ‘the message’ is unique and brilliant. I can look at his paintings for hours and keep discovering new things! It won’t let me go.”

This is something you also experience with Coen’s paintings. The images, symbols, and texts tell a story (his story) and transport you into the artist’s dream world. He reveals “his” world to the viewer. Coen paints scenes from life. The world is always in motion. “My head is full of images and ideas that I can share with the rest of the world this way!” “For me, it’s a kind of outlet that allows me to communicate with everyone.” In particular, the lips that appear in many of his works play an important role. “Everything people say rolls off their lips. The lips (mouth) ensure that the story gets across.” Coen usually works with acrylic and oil stick on linen or wood. Layer by layer, his paintings take shape, and it almost seems as if they’re coming to life! His works are sold in the Netherlands by a number of galleries and are distributed all over the world.
