Saskia Bremer

Saskia Bremer (1954) was born in Vlaardingen. After graduating from high school, she pursued a degree in education. As a teacher, she was able to earn a living and stand on her own two feet. She was realistic enough to realize that life as an artist would not provide enough income to live on during the first few years. In the evenings, she took various courses to satisfy her artistic needs.

In 1986, she enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. She graduated in 1991. Afterward, she began developing her own style, free from the strict rules and standards she had to adhere to at the Academy. She also discovered that she works better when she works on several paintings at the same time—a method she still uses today.

Slowly but surely, Saskia became more confident in her abilities as an artist, and she was encouraged by the sale of her first paintings at an exhibition in a local museum. This was followed by several exhibitions in galleries and various commissions from the business world. In 1996, Saskia was able to quit her full-time job. She divides her time between Portugal and the Netherlands to pursue her painting.
