Piotr Konkel

Pjotr Konkel was born in Poland in 1963. In 1974, Pjotr fled to the Netherlands with his sister and his Dutch mother.

In 1980, he enrolled at the Grafische School in Amsterdam. Two years later, he moved to The Hague to study graphic design at the Royal Academy of Art. Pjotr works primarily with oil and acrylic on paper, linen, and panel. After completing his graphic design studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, he worked for a year as a designer at an advertising agency in San Francisco. Back in the Netherlands, he began working at Vorm Vijf in The Hague. However, due to the limited creative freedom involved in design work, the designer and the artist found themselves at odds. In 1993, Piotr therefore resigned and set out to travel—first to Italy, then to America.
