Peter Munnik

Born on October 4, 1951, in Den Helder. Worked at the World Wildlife Fund until 1984. Began painting in 1980, later taking up sculpture. Recent work consists solely of paintings, mostly oil or acrylic on canvas. The work is primarily abstract, but figurative elements can be discerned in most paintings, leaving room for personal interpretation. The paintings usually feature contrasts, sometimes within the work itself, sometimes in the variation across series of paintings over a specific period. Examples of such contrasts include emotions such as attraction and repulsion, intimacy and detachment, relaxation and frustration.
