Perishable Rush

I was born in 1975 in the city of Den Bosch in the Netherlands. As a child, I was always building things to bring my own dream world—toys, games, and everything I could imagine—to life. My parents were very interested in art and always took me to galleries and museum exhibitions. Art was everywhere.

It wasn’t until the early days of street art that I really got involved in art, first as a collector and later as a participant. I was struck by the freedom of expression and the no-nonsense DIY punk attitude of artists like Banksy, Faile, Bast, WK Interactie, Obey Giant, and Swoon. Their work was so different from the art I’d seen on the streets before—they had something to say. I took a screen printing course to master the technique and started creating my own art. I haven’t stopped making art since. I found a freedom to express myself that I’d never experienced before. I trained as a designer and attended art school. So creating isn’t new to me. However, making art freed me from any set of rules or client briefs. For me, art is the absolute freedom to bring my vision to life, to realize my dreams. To express what I think needs to be said. And the biggest thrill for me is getting it out into the world and seeing how it affects people.
