Margit Junge is largely self-taught. After taking courses at Artibus in Utrecht and Amsterdam, she forged her own path. Junge paints in an abstract, wild, impulsive, and colorful style, applying acrylic and oil paint generously to the canvas. Her work is often beautifully ornamented with sweeping lines and hand-applied gold leaf. The designs are batik-like, and the women depicted unmistakably have an Indo appearance.

Margit Junge is largely self-taught. After taking courses at Artibus in Utrecht and Amsterdam, she forged her own path, developing a clearly recognizable visual language. Richly patterned abstracts, women’s heads, fantasy animals, mosaics, painted firewood logs, and furniture: Junge manages to leave her unmistakable signature on every medium.

All these designs come to her in a continuous stream. She doesn’t consciously invent them, nor does she sketch them out in advance. It just happens.
