Marc Faasse is a documentary photographer with a distinct fascination for shifting perspectives. His images immediately raise the question: What am I actually seeing? Although they are unmistakably photographic, they challenge the viewer’s familiar point of view. Faasse works with a long selfie stick—a pole with his camera attached—which he uses to take series of photos from constantly changing positions. By combining these shots, he creates a new, composite image that both creates distance and brings the viewer closer.

In his work, Faasse explores how our gaze is guided by height, distance, and movement. The method is transparent, but the result remains intriguing: urban scenes appear both ordinary and alienating, as if you’re seeing a place you know but have never perceived in this way before. By walking a few meters further each time and capturing the scene anew, he builds a visual reconstruction that stretches, tilts, and reorganizes reality. In this way, Faasse creates a unique form of documentary photography in which observation, technique, and imagination converge seamlessly.
