Daan Parmentier

In his work, Daan Parmentier explores the ways in which people try to overcome fear and tension. In his paintings and sculptures, he uses a variety of colors, shapes, and materials to visualize inner struggle and liberation. Metal tubes reaching skyward, black-and-white aerated concrete blocks, and rounded forms symbolizing inner peace: his work oscillates between tension and harmony. Sometimes he chooses recognizable images such as trees or sailboats; other times, he opts for abstract forms that evoke peace and freedom. His diverse styles reflect his ongoing inner quest.

Through his art, Parmentier gives voice to universal fears: failure, success, being trapped—or, conversely, freedom itself. He depicts these feelings in powerful colors and forms, ranging from a fleeing figure to an abstract cry. At the same time, he also depicts the triumph over fear, for example in a bird of paradise breaking free or soaring sculptures that suggest liberation. His work is colorful, compelling, and focused on the process of searching, letting go, and finding inner peace.

With a background in architecture and civil engineering, Parmentier developed a deep understanding of materials such as stone, metal, concrete, and wood. This foundation later enabled him to experiment freely as an artist. Although he has taken various workshops, he is primarily self-taught. In his studio, he has been exploring different techniques for years and continues to experiment with forms, colors, and materials to capture his feelings.
