Annemiki Bok (born in Emmeloord, 1953) is a Dutch artist known for her expressive use of color and the depth she creates through the layering of oil paint, applied with a palette knife. Her work shows influences from Impressionists such as Isaac Israëls, the large color fields of Mark Rothko, and the dynamism of Willem de Kooning.
Annemiki Bok studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in the 1980s and subsequently took intensive courses at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten. Her paintings are characterized by a balance between realism and abstraction, and her figures radiate an inner strength that is revealed through their body language.
Some of her well-known works include:
Medicine Woman: This work demonstrates her skill in capturing human figures with an inner radiance.
Dutch Queen: Another example of her talent for conveying human emotions and body language.
The Duchess: This painting highlights her ability to combine color and movement.
Hommage a Isaac Israëls: A tribute to the Impressionist painter, in which she pays homage to his style and technique.
Her art is an ongoing dialogue with paint, in which she constantly experiments with composition and color. Annemiki Bok describes painting as a necessity and an essential part of her life.
